Dancing with God

Can you imagine dancing with God … stepping onto a dance floor, His dance floor, and dancing a two-step or polka, or maybe a waltz?

I grew up dancing with my daddy, so the thought of dancing with God comes naturally to me. After my dad passed away I stepped into his country-western dancing boots and, to my surprise and delight, they fit. On the concrete surface just outside the 12×12 storage unit where Daddy’s belongings had been stored, I stood amazed, staring at my feet. My thoughts transitioned seamlessly from dancing with Daddy to dancing with God … on His dance floor. Suddenly, I felt lighter than air and began to dance, exclaiming to anyone who cared to listen, “I’m dancing in Daddy’s boots.”

The only folks within earshot were my brothers, Donny and Jimmy, and my youngest nephew, Tyra. I’m not sure they paid a lot of attention to me but I was delighted none-the-less. I tried on Daddy’s other boots and not one pair fit. They were all too big. Go figure!

I thought about Daddy’s boots and what a treasure they were. I was blessed to grow up with a loving father who treasured time with his family. Even though Daddy traveled on business and was gone from time to time, he was always there for us. He loved us. He loved our mom.

Once again, my thoughts shifted from my relationship with Daddy to my relationship with God, affectionately known as Daddy God.

There are many similarities between my relationship with my earthly father and my heavenly Father. I was close to my daddy. I desire to be close to Daddy God. I learned so much about life from Daddy. I continue to learn about life from God. Daddy was my go-to, especially after I became an adult. God is my go-to now.

Can you relate? I know not everyone has a good relationship with their earthly father. For that I am saddened to the nth degree. All I can say is that Daddy God loves even when an earthly father doesn’t. Daddy God wants a life-long relationship, even if an earthly father doesn’t. So, take courage. Only God can fill an empty hole left behind by an unloving, uncaring earthly father. I pray that anyone feeling detached from an earthly father can find solace drawing near to God.

Are you ready to step in with an amazing Teacher, the Master Instructor, and learn his precepts and the plan He has for your life? He leads. We follow. Following requires surrender, but it’s not the kind of surrender that feels like a loss. In fact, it is a BIG WIN. We won’t find a better teacher anywhere. And the steps are written out for us in the Bible.

Do you want to be ready to step out in faith with the Master Guide, the number one Life Coach, and share the knowledge and wisdom given you? If we don’t step out … if we don’t share the message of Jesus Christ’s resurrection … then how will people know? (Romans 10:14-15) And how will people be set free from the things that hinder and the sin that entangles? (Hebrews 12:1)

We are all invited to be part of God’s world, to dance with Him on His great dance floor. Whether or not we accept is up to us. There is freedom in the dance—when it is God’s dance. So, don’t wait. Accept God’s invitation. Pull on your dancing boots and get ready for the time of your life.
